How do I find or write relevant prompts?

Let Gander Do the Work First

Gander automatically creates prompts for you in two ways:

From your website content: Gander scans your site and generates prompts based on its content. If you have a page about business permits, Gander creates questions like “How do I apply for a business permit in Toronto?”

From Google Search Console: Gander looks at the most popular key phrases people use to find your site. It then turns these into natural question prompts.

When to Write Your Own Prompts

Sometimes you’ll want to add custom prompts. Here’s when:

  • You want to test a specific competitor comparison
  • You’re launching new content and want to track it
  • You notice a gap in the auto-generated list
  • You want to test questions from customer/citizen feedback or support tickets

How to Write Good Prompts

Make them sound natural People talk to AI like they’re asking a person. Write prompts the way someone actually speaks.

✓ Good: “What’s the best project management software for remote teams?”
✗ Awkward: “project management software remote teams features”

Be specific about location and context Include the details that matter for your audience.

✓ Good: “Who are the top SEO agencies in Vancouver?”
✗ Too vague: “Who does SEO in my area?”

Use different question types Based on the question types from the previous section, create a mix:

  • Factual: “What is the average cost of a website redesign?”
  • Procedural: “How do I choose the right CRM for my business?”
  • Conceptual: “Why is brand positioning important for startups?”
  • Comparison: “What’s the difference between SEO and SEM?”

Testing Your Prompts

After you add prompts to Gander, the platform will run them to see:

  • Does your organization appear in the answer?
  • What sources does the AI cite?
  • Do competitors show up instead?

This tells you which prompts need attention and where to focus your content efforts.
